Recycling and rubbish container guide

Which containers to use for your recycling and rubbish.

Food waste recycling containers

Houses and converted flats

If you live in a house, we can provide:

  • a small indoor caddy to collect food waste in your kitchen
  • a secure outdoor food waste container to transfer food waste into every few days

We provide the same service to some but not all converted flats.

Request an indoor caddy and/or outdoor container.

Estates and blocks of flats

If you live on an estate or in a block of flats and have a food waste recycling service, we can provide a small indoor caddy. Request an indoor caddy.

Line your caddy with a compostable bag and put your food waste in. You then tie up the compostable bag and put it in the communal food recycling bin. This is usually near your other rubbish and recycling facilities. If you’re not sure, call 020 7527 2000 or ask your caretaker.

Flats above shops or other commercial premises

If you live in a flat above shops on Holloway Road between Holloway tube station, and Highbury and Islington tube station, you can recycle your food waste.

Collect your food waste in an indoor caddy. Then put your food waste in the communal food waste bin. You can find these at regular intervals along the road.

Request an indoor caddy if you need one.

We can't provide a food waste recycling service if you live in flats above shops elsewhere in the borough at the moment.
