Low traffic neighbourhoods

Low traffic neighbourhoods are part of our efforts to create a cleaner, greener, and healthier borough.

We introduced new people-friendly streets neighbourhoods to the borough between 2020 and 2022. These are sometimes also called low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs). By installing inexpensive measures like bollards and smart cameras, we created more space for everyone to enjoy their neighbourhoods as they walk, wheel and cycle around.

These schemes were first installed as 18-month trials. After people experienced the changes, residents were asked for their views on whether the measures should stay permanently roughly 12 months after the start of the trial.

Residents and visitors can still access their street by motor vehicle and receive deliveries. However, it is much harder or impossible for traffic to cut through local streets from one main road to the next.

You can see maps of all our LTNs on the dedicated neighbourhood pages below or access our Google map of the LTN's and School Streets.
