Who can apply for a School Street permit
You can apply for a School Street permit if you:
- live in an address in a School Street zone
- work for a business in a School Street zone
- are a Blue Badge holder and need to park near a building in a School Street zone
How it works
The School Street permit is on our system so you don’t need to display anything in your car.
The permit means your registered vehicle can drive through the School Street traffic restriction that you apply for.
How to apply
Make sure you read and agree to the terms and conditions when you apply for a permit.
If you have an on-street parking permit
Sign into your parking account and click 'School Street permit – for existing permit holders'.
You will see the school street permit if you live in a School Street zone and you have a:
- residents permit
- free residents permit for Blue Badge holders
- business permit
- motorcycle permit
If you don’t have an on-street parking permit
If you don’t have a parking permit or you only have estate parking, you have to:
- register for a parking account if you don’t have one
- sign-in to your parking account if you have one or after you've registered
- choose 'apply for a permit'
- click 'School Street permit – for non-permit holders'
- upload documents that prove your address and the vehicle you drive:
- proof of address: something that shows where you live, sent within the last three months, such as a council tax, energy or water bill
- company letter: an email or letter on company-headed paper from your manager to confirm you work for a business in the School Streets zone
- vehicle logbook (V5C)
If you are a Blue Badge holder
Blue Badge holders who live in a School Street zone can apply with one of the first two options.
If you are a Blue Badge holder from somewhere else and you need to drive in a School Street zone, you should fill in the online form and give some documents to prove your reason for needing access.
What you need to apply as a Blue Badge holder
You need to attach to the online form:
- a copy of your Blue Badge
- your vehicle logbook (V5C)
You will also need to add proof of the reason for you driving in a School Streets zone.
- For access to a hospital, clinic, GP or medical centre, you should attach proof of your need like a letter or email from your doctor that says you are a patient at a medical centre in the School Street zone
- For access to a school, attach an official letter or email from the headteacher that says your child goes there
For any other reason, we will still review your form and tell you if you can get a permit or not.

What happens next
We will send an email to tell you when your permit is active. Don’t drive through the School Street traffic restriction until you get this email.
When and how to renew your permit
The School Street permit lasts for three years.
If you are a Blue Badge holder living outside of a School Street zone, it will expire at the same time as your Blue Badge.
You must renew your School Streets permit when it expires. Do this the same way you applied for it, either in your parking account or through the Blue Badge holder form.
How to change your vehicle or address
You must update your vehicle details or address in your parking account if you change your registered vehicle or move to a new address.
Who can’t apply
You can’t apply if you are:
- driving a trades vehicle
- a delivery driver
- a contractor
- a visitor
- a parent or carer dropping off children
This is not a complete list. There may be other vehicles and people who can't apply.
