Whittington Hospital area proposal (Zone K)

This consultation ran from Monday 6 July until Monday 7 September 2015 and has now closed. Thank you to those who provided feedback.

Following the outcome of the consultation, the Council’s Executive agreed to introduce extended controls in the Whittington Hospital area (Zone K) due to public support. You can see details of the report that went to the Executive and the decision here.

The changes are planned for summer/autumn 2016 and residents in this area will be notified in advance.

Details of the original consultation are below.

Why is it necessary to review parking controls in this area?

Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) are designed to protect the on-street parking spaces for the local community and make it easier for residents and their visitors to park near to their homes.

The last review of Zone K was undertaken in 2007, but with increasing parking pressures around the busy Whittington Hospital and new housing developments underway, these controls no longer provide adequate protection for our residents. It is particularly busy in the evening and during weekend periods.

What is proposed in this area?

The council is proposing to extend the hours of operation to cover the evening and weekend periods to protect parking for existing permit holders. This includes:

  • Extending controls to 24 hours, Monday to Sunday (everyday).
  • Introducing new free e-vouchers for residents’ visitors Monday to Friday from 6.30pm - 8.30am the next day. Then all day on Saturday and Sunday
  • Introducing a £2.40 flat rate pay and display evening charge to cover the extended period from 6.30pm - midnight, Monday to Sunday.
