How to book a BSL interpreter
To book a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter, you must give us enough notice and send us some information.
British Sign Language interpreters work Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. If you need an interpreter at other times, you must give us a lot of advance notice.
There is a high demand for interpreters. We will need at least two to four weeks notice before your appointment or meeting. Interpreters may be available quicker - contact us to check first.
We put you first if you need an interpreter for:
- child and adult protection investigations
- homelessness issues.
What you need to make a booking
To book a BSL interpreter, you must give us:
- your name and contact details
- date, time and length of the appointment or meeting (the interpreter may not be able to stay after the booked time because of other bookings)
- what the appointment or meeting is about including any background information
- full address of the place of the appointment or meeting
- any paperwork that will help the interpreter, like an agenda (listing what is happening at the appointment), minutes of previous meetings or copies of notes. - you should send this at least one week before the date of booking if you can
- anything that explains or contains any technical language or jargon so the interpreter can prepare before the appointment.
