This statement applies to content published on the Islington Council website. This accessibility statement does not apply to websites that are not part of the Islington.gov.uk domain. Much of our digital content is delivered by third parties. Content delivered by third parties on different domains have separate accessibility statements.
This website is run by Islington Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this site. You should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard or speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Not all of our PDFs are correctly tagged. This can mean that the content is not meaningfully read aloud by screen reading software.
- Not all of our PDFs have titles. This can make the purpose of the PDF difficult to determine for screen reader users who cannot see the screen.
- Not all of our PDFs have headings and the heading levels of our PDFs are not always logical. This can make page navigation difficult for screen reader users who cannot see the screen.
- When users try to type in common personal data, the autocomplete entries may not always show. For users with dexterity difficulties this could make filling out forms more time consuming.
- On small screens, on some pages, users may have to scroll horizontally.
- The ReCaptcha badge is not read out meaningfully by some screen reading software.
- The translation pages contain image of text. The non-English content on the translation pages is not available to screen reader users who cannot see the screen and will pixelate when zoomed in.
- The same link text is used for different link destinations. This can make the purpose of the link difficult to determine, especially for screen reader users who cannot see the screen.

What we are doing to make this website more accessible
The issues with the Recaptcha badge will be resolved by the end of January 2026.
We have manually assessed and fixed all of our core components for digital accessibility using assistive technology tools such as screen reading software and voice recognition software. The core components are repeated content (for example the navigation menu or the cookie banner). Because of the size of the site we cannot however manually assess every page for WCAG compliance. We use automated software to check our site for WCAG compliance failures and continue to resolve the issues discovered. We provide training in PDF accessibility to all the document publishers as well as software to make the PDFs more accessible. We have also paid outside contractors to remediate our PDFs. We regularly review selected PDFs manually to check quality.
Major changes to the website are reviewed for accessibility before go live.
We are currently in the process of rebuilding the Islington.gov.uk website, which we are aiming to complete by summer 2027. As part of this we will ensure that the core components are accessible and review our content for accessibility. We will reduce the total number of PDFs on the website which will enable us to more effectively manage accessibility issues with PDFs.
