Black Cultural Centre Pop-Up
We are taking a new approach to finding an operator for the Black Cultural Centre. The Black Cultural Centre Pop-Up will run for around 10 to 18 months from October 2024.
We will offer up to four tenants the opportunity to licence 16-18 Hornsey Road for three months to offer services and activities aimed at Global Majority African and Caribbean communities.
We are looking for individuals, organisations or consortium to start the delivery of the Black Cultural Centre having to commit to or pay for a long-term lease. This is a fantastic opportunity to promote your organisation, engage our Global Majority African and Caribbean Communities and launch products and services.
How to apply

About the centre
The Black Cultural Centre will create a safe space for residents from Black African and Caribbean heritage to come together and feel at home. It will also provide opportunities for learning about Black history and culture, and to empower and uplift our Black community.
Our commitment to open a Black Cultural Centre is part of the mission we have set out in our Islington Together 2030 plan and is part our Challenge Inequality commitment to tackle racism, injustice and inequality within the borough, promoting equity, diversity and inclusion.
We have listened to residents who took part in our Let’s Talk and Being Black in Islington engagement programmes in 2023. We understand the significance of creating a space that allows residents to come together in solidarity to address issues that disproportionately impact people in the borough from Black African and Caribbean heritage.
Next steps
We will continue to work with residents and stakeholders to ensure the project is representative of diverse Black culture and is developed and delivered in partnership with the community.
