Cyber Security

Cyber Security is the practice of protecting the council’s digital information systems from harm.

The London Borough of Islington maintains a robust security posture on the protection of resident, staff and partner data and is in fully committed compliance with NCSC guidelines and best practice. We welcome audits as an opportunity to continually improve and invest significant time and resources into the people, processes, and technology necessary to securely manage the vital and often sensitive data we handle while continually scanning and responding to an evolving threat landscape.

We share intelligence and systems through partnership working across local government, central government, the wider public and the voluntary sector to maximise our effectiveness in thwarting attempts to infiltrate our network and gain access to our data. We target and regularly achieve relevant cyber security compliance standards and accreditations and are laser focused on providing assurance to the communities and partners we serve that we have a robust approach to this discipline while delivering to high service standards in enabling the organisation to achieve its goals.

We rigorously maintain a strong policy framework, including regular communication of policies and the responsibilities of colleagues and partners in relation to data capture and handling. We also provide training on information security and data protection compliance.. We are never complacent and are constantly evaluating and improving cyber security in the council.

We are committed to upholding the highest standards of cyber security. Should a security incident occur, we will, without undue delay, escalate the matter to the relevant authorities including the Information Commissioner’s Office, police, and the National Cyber Security Centre and take appropriate action to address the situation.
